  • After the free public press conference and tabling event at Valle de Oro NWR from 8:30 am - 11:00 am, you can choose to continue on to several tours and activities over October 12th and 13th with the option to stay overnight at the Casitas in Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.

    There is no cost to attend these events and we will be providing a free shuttle for events on October 12th, however you are responsible for any costs incurred for lodging and meals over the 2-day celebration.

    You must register for the tours and activities by 5:00 pm on Weds October 11th.

    You will need to make your own reservation for your lodging at the Casitas at Sevilleta NWR if you wish to stay overnight on October 12th at Sevilleta NWR. To reserve your bunk for $35, you will need to email Stephanie Baker at srbaker@unm.edu and state you are reserving the Casita for the National Wildlife Refuge Week event. Our group will be housed in cabins 9 and 10.

New Mexico’s National Wildlife Refuges are gathering in October to mark the 20th anniversary of the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act!

Please join us on Thursday, October 12 at Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge for our free, public program and kick-off for our two-day celebration!

We invite you to our press conference and tabling session from 8:30 am to 11:00 am, to learn about the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act and its significance to our Refuge's conservation, restoration, and community engagement efforts throughout the state, and tours of Valle de Oro NWR.

Federal, State, and Local Representatives, National Wildlife Refuge Administrators, Managers, Friends groups and partners will all be in one place to share our story and the successes of collaborative efforts to protect the wildlife, habitat, and people of New Mexico

There is no need to register to attend the free morning program from 8:30 am - 11:00 am at Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, 7851 2nd St. SW, ABQ 87105

We invite you to continue on with the two-day celebration by joining us for tours of Valle de Oro NWR, Sevilleta NWR, and Bosque del Apache NWR on Thursday, October 12th and Friday, October 13th.  

The morning program is free and open to the public, but in order to continue on with the celebration, you must register for the tour segments, networking and hiking opportunities, and optional lodging in the Casitas at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge on Thursday night.  You can register on the event page at:
